As these two apps are named quite similar, it can be hard to tell them apart. A key difference is that the:

• Soundtrack Player app plays music and is the music source
• iOS Remote app is an additional tool that lets you adjust the volume, skip songs and change the music remotely.

This means that the iOS Remote app does not work as a player, and you will need a Soundtrack Player connected to be able to play music. Although you can't access the Home section from the iOS Remote app, you can choose from your already added playlists, stations, and schedules.
